List of Books in the Bible

I want to read all the books of the bible, but with my new-found perspective.

When I was a Christian, I always wanted to officially have read the entire Bible. I’ve yet to complete this task, and now I’m an atheist. I still want to read all the books though, but with my new-found perspective. I thought I might go through each book and write some of the cliff notes in my diary.

I may even go so far as to read other holy books such as the Koran or the Tao Te Ching, but for now I’ll start with Christianity since I am more familiar with it.

I come from a background in the Churches of Christ, which took a literal view of the Bible. I was taught that the earth was young, that man was created by God, and that a flood literally did happen. The word of God was perfect and all we needed. If it wasn’t in the bible, we didn’t do it in our church. (Example, we sang our hymns a cappella–without instrumental accompaniment–because the First Century Christians did not write about using instruments in the New Testament.)

I’ll start each chapter by providing an image if there’s one available. Then I’ll highlight a verse from the chapter (I quote from the NIV, if you’re curious). Next, a few short sentences on the content of that chapter. If there’s key places, names or events that might be corroborated with archaeology, I’ll jot those down. Finally I’ll leave a few brief thoughts, questions or impressions I have about the chapter.

Dudes, if you’re looking for a full-on interpretive write-up, you’re in the wrong place. I’m not a Bible scholar. I’m writing these articles to internalize what I’m thinking about. Feel free to leave your opinions in the comments.

Here’s a list of books. If I ever start reading a book, I’ll link to it here. Notes may or may not be complete.

According to my bible checklist, I am 5.3% done (63/1189 chapters read).
